52 Weeks

I finally finished my 52 weeks project! It was my New Years resolution for 2013 to take a picture every week for the whole year and it's now complete. So to celebrate I decided to share all of my favorite pictures that I took (you can view the complete project here).

For 2014, I am thinking of working on more conceptual pictures and I'd love to shoot more portraits. Next semester I'm also taking my first photography class, and I'm excited to expand my talents and really learn more about how to work a camera. - Jessica

Merry Christmas

There are just a few more minutes until it's Christmas for me and here is my last Christmas post of this year. Overall, this year didn't feel as festive as the past, the weather is a bit warm and I didn't listen to Christmas songs or play them on my ukulele as much as last year. But this year things were a little different, I didn't procrastinate in my Christmas shopping this year and I feel like I took significantly more pictures this holiday season than last year. I got to visit the Trail of Lights one more time before it closed this year and earlier today my siblings and I attempted to make a gingerbread (sadly it died and we just decorated the front), which I think made up for this holiday season feeling so different. The above picture was edited with the app, Studio.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day! - Jessica

Trail of Lights

Last year I briefly blogged about the Trail of Lights, it's one of my favorite Christmas traditions. This year I went a little overboard with the bokeh photos, don't blame because the results are magical. During the trail, I alternated between singing Christmas songs and the Frozen soundtrack. I haven't been able to stop listening to the soundtrack (particularly "Do You Want to Build a Snowman"), which resulted in my sister buying a copy. Hopefully I can make another trip out before it closes on Sunday!(The text on the above photo was added in the app Over.)

'Tis the Season

Hello internet! Sorry I've been neglecting you, but I just wrapped my first semester of college and I have plenty of time to blog now. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of the year, I love playing Christmas tunes on my uke, all the pretty lights, and presents aren't that bad either! (The above photo was made with the app, Studio, and filtered with Instagram)

I absolutely love bokeh lights and I'll upload more picture like this before Christmas.

Texas weather has been uncharacteristically cold so hot chocolate and coffee have become a must.

Expect some more Christmas posts! - Jessica

wildflowers

Hello internet! I hadn't realized it has been so long since my last post, between school and work I really haven't had much time to take pictures. Back in July I visited the Wildflower Center and I never got around to posting these pictures. I hope I can visit again in the spring when all the flowers are just blooming and maybe see some bluebonnets!

Until next time! - Jessica

snapshots

I just started my first semester of college and life seems pretty hectic right now. All I want to do is play wii and watch netflix for hours on end... Hopefully I can start a routine and start blogging regularly again.

Graffiti Park

Ahhh I've been neglecting my blog lately and I have a few posts to catch up on. Earlier this month I went with my friend Shelby to Graffiti Park. It's an old urban lot in downtown Austin that's covered in constantly changing graffiti. It was fun to climb the ruins and look at the artwork. It was also a really different photography experience for me, I love taking portraits in parks filled with trees and getting tons of bokeh in the background.

Rock Island

My family and I went out to Zilker this past weekend with the intention of taking pictures. My little sister lost a Words With Friends game against my brother in law and in exchange he got to have a photoshoot with her. Unfortunately we didn't think about Texas heat and instead just hanged out at Rock Island.

I can't wait until the weather goes down so that I can actually go outside and take pictures without baking, but that won't be for a while. Sigh. - Jessica

food adventures: gourdough's

A few weeks ago I blogged about how my family visited Gourdough's for the first time and now my family is obsessed with their food. I love that their menu is so imaginative and creative. Their food is absolutely delicious and I think that the line of people who were there on a Saturday night can agree with me.

(Click on the link above for the full menu!)

This time around my family and I tried the Mother Clucker and the Flying Pig (which is my family's favorite - who wouldn't love a doughnut with bacon?)

Mmmhhh I'm already thinking about which doughnuts to get on our next visit. - Jessica

a study in e minor

These photos where taken way back in May for my 52 weeks project and I've been meaning to share these photos for a while now. When I took these pictures I had just had my last orchestra banquet (blog post) and I was about to have my last orchestra concert. The whole graduating and having to experience many lasts was very bittersweet. And I hate to admit it but I haven't played my violin since then (I've been playing the piano instead.) I'd love to get back into playing but I really love the whole orchestra setting over a string quartet, so if anyone knows of a recreational orchestra program in the central Texas area, I'm interested. -Jessica

the 28th week

I know it's been a while since I last posted a progress report on my 52 weeks project (it's been 25 weeks,) but lately my biggest obsession is reading blogs. I've been following several blogs and I've been inspired to do more with my own. So I'm going to start attempting to blog regularly (hopefully weekly,) and that can also help inspire me to take more pictures.

Last Sunday was my 18th birthday. The concept of being an adult is weird to me, even though I don't feel any different. I spend my day with my family, I finally went to Gourdoughs (film pictures to come within the future,) I cruised around South Congress, I saw "Despicable Me 2," and we went out to eat for dinner. While browsing around SoCo we went to shop where I got a toy dinosaur succulent, that I've been eyeing for a while. (They also have an online shop, where you can get dinosaur planters and other animals)

I also went out with my friend the other day to get snow cones! I got a kiwi banana flavor while my friend got a chocolate.
